Open Swim

The end of the decade had me painting large and immersed in water. This commissioned work was a pleasure; a welcome opportunity to explore a theme I've visited before and with notable differences. Not only have I had the opportunity, over past decades, to swim with this intrepid swimmer (she, more intrepid than I), this piece was a return to a much larger format on 30"x40" stretched canvas. While she was venturing swims in far away locales, I was learning to accept and manage lymphedema (essentially, too much water in me!) and now I can see the influence of these experiences, as they always are, reflected in the work. Here's to hope and serenity in 2020.

The Goldfish

This is a commissioned painting of Emily who loves water as much as I do.
And what I love nearly as much is painting it...the same fluid relaxation and escape from thought. I'd be happy to do some more if you have photos as good as this one was. Maybe something in the Caribbean? A clear lake? I live vicariously through paint.
This one is for Marianne.
